Sanwo-Olu Launches Free Eye Screening, Eyeglasses for 1,000 Lagos Police Officers

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has flagged off a free eye screening and eyeglass distribution programme for 1,000 officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Lagos Command, as part of efforts to boost morale and enhance operational efficiency within the force.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command, is designed to provide comprehensive eye examinations and corrective eyewear to officers who require vision support. The programme was officially inaugurated at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja. Representatives of the Lagos State Government said the intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of security personnel who play a critical role in maintaining law and order across Lagos State. According to officials, the health outreach includes professional eye screenings conducted by qualified medical practitioners, prescription of corrective lenses, and the distribution of eyeglasses at no cost to beneficiaries. The programme is expected to improve officers’ performance, particularly in duties requiring prolonged reading, documentation, and surveillance. Government representatives noted that the initiative forms part of broader welfare and healthcare interventions aimed at frontline workers in the state. They emphasised that improved vision and general health are essential for effective policing and public safety. Police authorities in Lagos welcomed the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. Beneficiary officers expressed appreciation, stating that access to free medical support would ease financial burdens and enhance their productivity on duty.
