The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has formally declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek a second term in 2027, while also receiving five members of the National Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The endorsement was adopted during a stakeholders’ gathering on Saturday. Former Secretary to the State Government, Sola Akinwumi, who chairs the Osun APC Elders’ Forum, initiated the motion backing Tinubu’s re-election bid, and it was supported by Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.

Overseeing proceedings, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru outlined what he described as key gains under the Tinubu administration. He referenced improved national reserves, increased allocations to states and local governments, and broader fiscal reforms aimed at stimulating development.

Basiru also reiterated the party’s resolve to reclaim Osun State in the August 8 governorship election, urging voters to align with the APC at both state and federal levels. He assured the newly defected lawmakers of collaboration within the party structure.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola presented a catalogue of federal initiatives, including progress in foreign exchange management, a reduction in fuel imports through enhanced local refining, and new investment commitments exceeding $50 billion. He further highlighted the approval of a ₦70,000 national minimum wage, expanded access to student loans, funding support for nano enterprises, targeted assistance to vulnerable households and infrastructure projects such as the Ibadan–Oshogbo road. According to him, these measures form part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and justify continued support for Tinubu beyond 2027.

The APC governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, described the President’s leadership style as decisive and reform-driven. He credited federal reforms with stabilising state finances and urged party faithful to maintain unity ahead of the upcoming governorship contest.

Speaking for the defectors, Senator Francis Fadahunsi confirmed their commitment to the APC’s electoral objectives. Other lawmakers who joined the party include Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, Wole Oke, Sanya Ominrin, and Abimbola Ajilesoro.

The five federal legislators, originally elected under the PDP platform, attributed their switch to unresolved internal disagreements within their former party.
