One Dead as Truck Crushes Car at Eleko Junction

The crash resulted in the immediate death of the male driver.
The truck was reportedly speeding from Epe when it suffered a mechanical failure. It veered off its path and collided with the car traveling in the opposite direction.
Explaining the cause, LASTMA official, Adebayo Taofiq stated: “An articulated truck, heavily burdened with granite and travelling at an inordinate speed, reportedly experienced a catastrophic brake malfunction.”
The truck overturned upon impact, trapping the motorist inside the wreckage. While the man died instantly, his wife survived with life-threatening injuries and was rushed for emergency medical care.
Following the collision, the truck driver fled the scene to evade arrest. Emergency responders and police eventually arrived to conduct rescue operations and manage the resulting gridlock.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki called the tragedy avoidable. He urged all motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and warned against the dangers of reckless driving.
