LP Vows to Resist Rigging in Ebonyi Council Polls

The Labour Party in Ebonyi has alleged a plot to rig the upcoming August Local Government elections for the APC. Leaders in Abakaliki warned the state electoral commission (EBSIEC) against any manipulation of the results.
Chairman, Henry Ude dismissed claims that the party’s leadership is unrecognized by INEC. He insisted the LP is fully eligible and prepared to participate as the state’s main opposition.
Ude cited Supreme Court rulings to affirm the party’s legal standing. He argued that EBSIEC’s ongoing official dealings with his office prove their legitimacy and invalidate any attempts at exclusion.
Secretary, Innocent Igiri warned that any fraud would be met with fierce resistance. He confirmed that the party has candidates for all wards and urged voters to stay vigilant.
The party also gave a 48-hour ultimatum to “imposter” officials to stop parading themselves. They maintained that only one authorized secretariat exists to oversee the election process.
Emphasizing their resolve, Igiri stated, “Any attempt by EBSIEC to rig the forthcoming 2026 Local Government election in Ebonyi State will be fully resisted. We are ready, and we are following due process. Our eyes are on the ball.”
