President Bola Tinubu has appointed Engr. Adesayo Olusegun Michael as the substantive Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).

This follows the expiration of the previous MD’s tenure in December 2025. The move is part of an effort to stabilize leadership in the power sector.

Alongside the CEO, the President named a new governing board to provide strategic direction for the agency. Ikechi Clara Nwosu was appointed as the Chairman representing the South East. Other members include Engr. Aliyu Abdulazeez, who will serve as the Executive Director (Technical).

Regarding his expectations for the new team, the President’s statement emphasized, “The President expects the new leadership of NEMSA to ensure the highest standards of technical inspection, testing, and certification of all electrical installations in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.”

NEMSA’s primary role is enforcing technical standards and safety regulations within Nigeria’s power grid. Its work is essential for preventing electrical hazards and ensuring the quality of materials used in installations.

This oversight is intended to protect lives and property across the country.

In a related development, the President also appointed Hon. Magaji Da’u Aliyu as the Managing Director of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO). These dual appointments reflect the administration’s broader goal of revitalizing key research and regulatory bodies. Both agencies are central to the nation’s technological and energy advancement.

The new leadership is expected to hit the ground running to address safety gaps in the electricity industry.

Stakeholders have noted that having an engineer at the helm is crucial for maintaining the agency’s technical integrity. The appointments take effect immediately to ensure a seamless transition from the acting management.
