Police Disburse ₦29.6m Life Insurance to Families of Fallen Officers in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has paid a total of ₦29.6 million in Group Life Assurance benefits to the families of police officers who lost their lives or sustained life-threatening injuries while on active duty.
The sum of ₦29,638,584.78 was disbursed to 10 beneficiaries during a presentation ceremony held on Tuesday, underscoring ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to provide welfare support to personnel and their dependants.
The funds were presented on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Ahmad Musa, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Umar Sokoto, alongside members of the command’s management team.
Speaking at the event, Umar Sokoto said the payment reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its officers, particularly those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
He explained that the Group Life Assurance Scheme was established to cushion the economic impact of death or serious injury on affected families.
He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds by investing in ventures that would provide long-term benefits and ensure financial stability for their households.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hamimatu Ahmad, widow of one of the deceased officers, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for what she described as compassionate and responsive leadership.
She also thanked the Sokoto State Police Command for the timely disbursement of the insurance benefits, noting that the support would go a long way in easing the financial burden faced by the families.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of serving and retired officers, as well as the families of personnel who lost their lives in the course of serving the nation.
