Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi has announced that inflows into the federation account soared to ₦35 trillion in 2025.
Regarding the year’s significant financial growth, he stated, “Our recent progress is undeniable. In the year 2025, inflows into the Federation Account rose above N35 trillion, a significant jump from N27 trillion in 2024.” This represents a substantial 29.63% increase over the previous year.
Ogunjimi credited the revenue surge to President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal reforms. He noted the figures signal a shift toward a more resilient, diversified economy. This growth significantly reduces Nigeria’s traditional dependence on volatile oil revenue.
Despite the gains, the Accountant-General warned that systemic leakages still undermine account predictability. He identified collection and remittance as critical areas where funds are frequently lost. Plugging these gaps remains a priority for institutional accountability.
The federation account remains the essential fiscal lifeline for all three tiers of government. It acts as the central pool for mobilizing and distributing national resources. Maintaining its integrity is vital for funding public infrastructure and services.
Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness in fund management.
She emphasized that ongoing reforms aim to ensure the account serves the public better. The focus remains on turning revenue into tangible development.
Supporters and economic analysts are now looking to see how these record funds will be utilized in the 2026 budget cycle. The government aims to sustain this momentum through further digital tracking of revenue agencies. Improved transparency is expected to remain a central theme of future fiscal policies.
