Nigeria Signals Readiness for Global Investment at 2026 Cape Town Mining Indaba
Nigeria has made a strong statement of intent at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Mining Indaba, currently taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), South Africa, as key government officials and industry leaders converged to promote the country’s solid minerals potential.
The global mining conference, running from 8 to 12 February 2026, is hosted by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development (MSMD) and serves as a major platform for dialogue, partnerships, and investment discussions across Africa’s mining landscape.
Among the prominent Nigerian representatives present was Honourable Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals, whose participation highlighted legislative backing for reforms aimed at improving governance, transparency, and investment confidence in the sector.
Nigeria’s delegation also featured leading figures shaping mining policy and geological development.
These included Mr. Tunde Arisekola, Head of the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Ms. Amira Waziri, a geologist and Senior Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, on policy and mining matters; and Professor Olusegun Ige, Director-General of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) and widely regarded as Nigeria’s foremost geologist.
At the Nigerian pavilion, the delegation engaged with international stakeholders, using the event to present Nigeria as open for mining business, while showcasing recent policy initiatives, regulatory improvements, and opportunities across the mining value chain.
Mining Indaba remains Africa’s premier mining investment forum, drawing participation from governments, financial institutions, investors, and technical experts from across the globe. Nigeria’s active presence at this year’s opening ceremony reflects a renewed push to position solid minerals as a cornerstone of economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable development.
As the conference continues, Nigerian officials are expected to pursue strategic partnerships and discussions that align with the country’s broader vision of unlocking the full value of its mineral resources.
