We Didn’t Register Underage, Says INEC
By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa
INEC has officially denied registering underage voters in Osun State following viral social media reports.
The commission labeled the claims as misleading and intended to cause public alarm.
The images circulating online do not represent current registration activities. INEC clarified that its hardware, including the BVAS, uses strict protocols to reject any applicant under the legal voting age of 18.
Osun’s Resident Electoral Commissioner assured the public that maintaining a clean voter register is a top priority. The commission uses Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) technology to remove invalid and underage entries.
The commission urged the public and stakeholders to avoid spreading unverified information that undermines democracy.
Genuine concerns should be directed through official administrative channels for correction.
INEC reminded citizens that preliminary registers are displayed for public scrutiny, claims, and objections.
This process allows the community to identify and report any ineligible persons on the list.
Reiterating its commitment to credibility, an INEC spokesperson stated, “The commission wishes to state categorically that it has not registered any underage person in Osun State or any other part of the country.
Our registration system is robust enough to prevent such infractions, and we remain committed to delivering a voter register that Nigerians can trust.”
