Title Race Tightens as Arsenal Stay Top, City stun Liverpool
The Premier League delivered another dramatic weekend in Matchweek 25, with big wins, surprise results and late drama reshaping both the title race and the battle at the bottom of the table.
Arsenal continued their strong push for the title with a convincing 3–0 victory over Sunderland at the Emirates.
Goals from Martín Zubimendi and a Viktor Gyökeres brace sealed a comfortable win that keeps the Gunners top of the table on 56 points after 25 matches.
The result maintained their six-point cushion over Manchester City and reinforced their status as title favourites.
The standout fixture of the weekend came at Anfield, where Manchester City secured a crucial 2–1 away win over Liverpool. Bernardo Silva’s late strike and a stoppage-time goal from Erling Haaland overturned Liverpool’s lead and handed Pep Guardiola’s side all three points.
The win lifts City to second place on 50 points, keeping the title race firmly alive, while Liverpool remain sixth on 39 points after another frustrating result.
Manchester United strengthened their hold on fourth place with a solid 2–0 victory over Tottenham. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, combined with a red card for Cristian Romero, ensured a comfortable afternoon for United, who now sit on 44 points.
Chelsea also impressed on the road, thrashing Wolves 3–1 at Molineux. Cole Palmer was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick to push Chelsea into fifth place on 43 points, just one point behind United in the race for Champions League qualification.
Aston Villa dropped points in a 1–1 draw away at Bournemouth, a result that keeps them third on 47 points but allows the chasing pack to close the gap. Newcastle suffered a disappointing 3–2 home defeat to Brentford, while Brentford’s win lifted them to seventh on 39 points, level with Liverpool.
At the lower end of the table, Everton boosted their survival hopes with a 2–1 away win at Fulham, climbing to eighth on 37 points. West Ham’s 2–0 victory over Burnley was significant, but they remain in the relegation zone in 18th place.
Burnley and Wolves continue to struggle, sitting 19th and 20th respectively, with Wolves rooted to the bottom on just eight points.
After 25 games, Arsenal lead the way, followed by Manchester City and Aston Villa. Manchester United and Chelsea round out the top five, while the relegation zone currently contains West Ham, Burnley and Wolves.
With key fixtures ahead, Matchweek 25 has set the stage for an intense run-in at both ends of the Premier League table.
