Pope Francis has expressed deep sorrow over the recent violent attacks in Nigeria that resulted in numerous deaths.

Addressing the Vatican, he lamented the ongoing bloodshed and the devastating impact these tragedies continue to have on the nation’s peace.

He highlighted the extreme vulnerability of rural communities frequently targeted by armed groups. The Pope emphasized that the violence affects both Christian and Muslim faithful, asserting that the sanctity of life must be protected across all religious divides.

The Pontiff issued an urgent plea to the Nigerian government and security agencies to prioritize the safety of all citizens.

He called for more effective strategies to prevent future massacres and demanded that the perpetrators of these crimes be held accountable.

During his message, he offered a specific prayer for the country, stating, “I pray that security, justice and peace will prevail in Nigeria, a country loved and so affected by various forms of violence.”

He further stressed the need for authentic religious freedom.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and those displaced by the unrest.

Additionally, he urged the global community to support Nigeria’s efforts in fostering reconciliation and breaking the persistent cycle of violence.

In closing, the Pope reminded leaders that lasting peace requires a commitment to justice and the common good. He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, praying that homes and places of worship would soon return to being havens of safety.
