Insecurity, Livestock Development Top Agenda as Tinubu Opens NEC Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to intensify efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and end terrorism and banditry, as he declared open a two-day National Economic Council (NEC) conference at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President said his administration remains determined to defeat insecurity, describing the challenge as one that has continued to trouble leaders across the country. He assured Nigerians that with sustained commitment and resilience, the fight against terrorism would be won.

Tinubu made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the conference, which is focused on generating concrete policy outcomes on national security and livestock reforms.

He noted that deliberations at the meeting were expected to yield practical resolutions capable of addressing insecurity and boosting economic growth.

According to the President, key areas of discussion include livestock investment, ranching initiatives and the diversification of agricultural production, which he said are essential to reducing conflict and improving national stability.

He described banditry and terrorism as alien to Nigeria’s values and unacceptable to the nation’s collective aspirations.

The conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan,” brought together the 36 state governors, senior federal and state government officials, development partners and other stakeholders to review strategies for inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.

Mr Tinubu also expressed appreciation to Vice President Kashim Shettima for his role in guiding the council’s deliberations, commending what he described as years of thoughtful and productive engagement within the NEC.

He further praised the governors of Borno, Kaduna and Katsina states for their efforts in confronting insecurity, saying their actions have contributed to the protection of freedom, liberty and national unity.

The NEC conference was organised by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and is expected to conclude with policy recommendations aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
