Ex-Lawmaker, Supporters Defect from APC to Labour Party in Abia

Former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Paul Taribo, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Labour Party (LP) alongside a large number of his supporters in Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.
Taribo, who represented Ukwa East State Constituency in the Assembly, announced his defection during an event held in Ikwueke East Ward. He explained that his decision was influenced by what he described as the achievements of Governor Alex Otti and his interest in supporting the governor’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.   The former APC chieftain pledged loyalty to the Labour Party and expressed readiness to help expand its grassroots presence in both the ward and the wider Ukwa East council area. He also voiced confidence in the governor’s leadership approach and development programmes, as well as the efforts of the Ukwa East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Chibunna Akara.   Akara, speaking at the gathering, welcomed the defectors and described Taribo as an asset whose political experience and network could strengthen the party locally. He noted that the Labour Party remains open to individuals willing to contribute to governance and development regardless of previous political affiliations.   Also speaking, the member representing Ukwa East in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, said the growing support for the Labour Party in the area reflects confidence in the current administration.   He expressed optimism that continued unity within the party would translate into sustained development for the people of the council area.   The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Abia State as parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
