Enugu Generates ₦406.8B IGR, Hits 80% of 2025 Target

The Enugu State Government has announced that its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2025 reached ₦406.8 billion, representing 80 per cent of the year’s targeted ₦509.9 billion.

The figure was confirmed by Mr. Emmanuel Nnamani, Chairman of the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS), during a media briefing on Sunday. Officials described the revenue performance as a reflection of the state’s growing fiscal resilience and strategic efforts to reduce reliance on federal allocations. According to the breakdown, non-tax revenue contributed ₦355.2 billion, or roughly 87 per cent of the total IGR, while tax revenue accounted for ₦51.5 billion, mainly from personal income and other formal taxes. The 2025 performance marks a significant improvement from the ₦180.5 billion generated in 2024, reflecting a 125 per cent year-on-year growth. Authorities attributed the success to widened revenue bases, enhanced compliance measures, and the deployment of technology in revenue collection. Looking ahead, the state has set an ambitious IGR target of ₦870 billion for 2026, aiming to further strengthen its internally driven financing of state activities. Governor Peter Mbah’s administration remains optimistic that continued reforms and economic growth will enable Enugu to meet or exceed the new target.
