Troops of Operation UDO KA uncovered and neutralized several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in an Abia State forest.Â
The tactical raid aimed to dislodge criminal elements and separatist groups. This discovery highlights the increasing use of sophisticated weaponry by non-state actors in the region.
During the clearance, the military found explosives planted along access routes to ambush security personnel.
Troops also recovered locally fabricated weapons, including Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers. This mission significantly hindered the group’s ability to attack military targets and civilian communities.
The operation followed intelligence reports on the activities of the proscribed IPOB and its armed wing, the ESN. Sources indicated the forest served as a major logistics hub and training ground for militants.
Destroying the camp dealt a major blow to the insurgency’s operational capacity.
Despite the high risks, only one soldier sustained minor shrapnel injuries during the encounter. The personnel was evacuated for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The military high command praised the troops’ precision and commitment to national security.
The Army urged Abia residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation is vital for identifying hidden hideouts and preventing explosive threats. Synergy between the military and the community remains essential for lasting peace.
This discovery is part of ongoing efforts to secure the Southeast from rising violence. The military vowed to continue reclaiming ungoverned spaces used as criminal havens.
Neutralizing these IEDs averted potential tragedies and secured primary transit routes for the public.
Highlighting these proactive measures, the Nigerian Army stated, “The discovery of these IEDs confirms the desperate tactics of these criminal elements to inflict maximum harm on security forces and innocent citizens. We remain undeterred in our mission to dismantle all terrorist infrastructure and ensure that peace and stability are fully restored to every part of the country.”
