Katsina Governor Approves Automatic Jobs for Best Graduating Varsity Students
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has approved automatic employment for the overall best graduating students of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, after the completion of their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
The governor made the announcement at the institution’s 14th convocation ceremony, where he was also honoured with an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration.
Radda said the decision was aimed at recognising academic excellence and motivating students to pursue high standards in their studies, stressing that merit must be rewarded.
He directed the Head of Service of the state to immediately begin the process of identifying and employing the beneficiaries, adding that outstanding academic performance should translate into opportunities for career advancement.
In addition to the employment offer, the governor approved a cash award of ₦100,000 for the best graduating students in all departments, while the overall best graduate will receive a brand-new vehicle.
Radda also announced the release of funds to support programme accreditation in line with national and international requirements, alongside the approval of a salary increment for both academic and non-academic staff of the university.
Addressing the graduands, the governor urged them to uphold integrity and innovation, and to apply their education toward solving societal problems and contributing to community development.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of UMYU, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, revealed that the university has expanded significantly, growing from an initial student population of about 1,000 to more than 20,000 students, with 117 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes currently in operation.
He congratulated the 2,682 graduating students, including 31 First Class degree holders, and praised the state government for its consistent support, particularly in the prompt payment of salaries.
The Chancellor of the university, Senator Ibrahim Ida, and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, also commended the graduands and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic growth and global competitiveness.
The ceremony attracted senior government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers, academics and other dignitaries from within and outside Katsina State.
