Barcelona Defeat Mallorca 3-0 to Strengthen Grip on La Liga Top Log
Barcelona maintained their push for the La Liga title with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the table to four points.
Goals from Robert Lewandowski, teenage winger Lamine Yamal and Marc Bernal sealed the win for the defending champions at the partially reopened Camp Nou, ahead of second-placed Real Madrid’s trip to Valencia on Sunday.
Mallorca showed early intent, with striker Vedat Muriqi narrowly missing an opener after sliding into a cross at the far post, while Jan Virgili tested Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia with a low effort.
After a slow opening spell, Barcelona gained momentum through Marcus Rashford, whose curling shot drifted just wide after cutting in from the left flank.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Dani Olmo reacted quickest to a blocked shot and squared the ball for Lewandowski to tap in from close range.
Rashford continued to trouble the visitors, forcing Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman to push a dangerous free-kick onto the crossbar.
Yamal also went close before the break, failing to convert from short range after Jules Kounde kept the ball alive.
The young winger made amends shortly after the restart, unleashing a powerful effort from outside the box that left Roman with no chance to double Barcelona’s advantage.
Barcelona pressed for more goals, with Marc Casado striking the crossbar following a deflection, while Garcia preserved the clean sheet with a fine save to deny Antonio Sanchez at the other end.
Marc Bernal rounded off the scoring late on, breaking through the Mallorca defence and finishing calmly with the help of a slight deflection.
Elsewhere in La Liga on Saturday, the match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Oviedo was postponed due to poor pitch conditions at the Vallecas Stadium in Madrid.
