FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has threatened to sack STDD Coordinator Abdulkadir Zulkiflu over persistent refuse heaps in Abuja’s satellite towns.
During a road inspection, Wike expressed deep dissatisfaction with the poor sanitation levels. He insisted that the government’s infrastructure drive must be accompanied by a clean environment.
The Minister slammed the STDD leadership for allowing waste to accumulate, calling it a failure of duty. He noted that while road projects progress under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, the filth undermines these gains. Wike stressed that new roads should not be marred by illegal dumpsites.
Wike ordered the immediate clearance of waste, stating that accountability is mandatory. He reminded officials that they lobbied for their roles and must produce results instead of excuses.
He warned that his administration will not tolerate idle officials while the environment deteriorates.
A strict Monday deadline was set for cleanup, with Wike promising to personally monitor the situation. He warned that further negligence would lead to immediate termination.
This move aims to ensure the FCTA remains responsive to residents outside the city center.
Wike stated, “If by Monday I see continued negligence or refusal to comply with performance standards, I will not hesitate to terminate the appointment of those responsible. Accountability is central to what we are doing. We will not tolerate practices that delay progress.”
Additionally, Wike praised progress on internal roads and announced the fast-tracking of the Apo-Karshi road. He assured residents that major projects, including the Bwari-Kubwa road, are slated for completion by May 2026. These efforts remain central to his urban renewal plan.
