Rivers Supporters Don’t Need Governor to Mobilise for Tinubu in 2027, Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State do not require the backing of the state governor to mobilise support for the president’s 2027 re-election bid.

Wike made the statement at the weekend in Port Harcourt during a gathering of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a pro-Tinubu political support group. According to him, the group and other grassroots structures across Rivers State are already strong, organised and capable of independently driving support for Tinubu ahead of the next general election. “We don’t need a governor to mobilise for President Tinubu. We have the numbers, the structure and the commitment to deliver,” Wike said, stressing that political mobilisation should not be limited to those holding executive offices. The former Rivers State governor said supporters of the president cut across political parties and include community leaders, ward executives, lawmakers and influential figures at the local government level. He added that their collective strength is sufficient to sustain campaign activities across the state. As part of efforts to strengthen mobilisation, Wike also commissioned a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, which he said would serve as a platform to promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration and engage the public ahead of 2027. Wike urged members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to intensify grassroots outreach and remain focused on selling the achievements of the current administration, noting that early preparation is key to electoral success. The remarks come amid ongoing political tension in Rivers State, where divisions among key political actors have shaped recent developments. However, Wike maintained that internal disagreements would not weaken the resolve of Tinubu’s supporters in the state. With political activities gradually building up nationwide ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike’s comments signal an aggressive early mobilisation strategy in Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s politically influential states.
