NDLEA arrested 339 as Command Intensifies War Against Narcotics

The Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 339 suspects and the seizure of over 7,700 kilogrammes of illicit substances.

The state commander, Mustapha Yahuza, detailed that the confiscated haul included cannabis, cocaine, tramadol, and various other psychotropic drugs intended for distribution.

In addition to the arrests, the agency reported significant progress in the judicial system, securing 80 convictions during the 2025 period.

These legal victories are part of a broader strategy to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics within the state and ensure that traffickers face the full weight of the law.

The command has also placed a heavy emphasis on preventative measures through its Drug Demand Reduction unit. This initiative involves extensive sensitization campaigns aimed at educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse, particularly targeting high-traffic areas and community centers to foster a drug-free environment.

Highlighting the scope of their outreach, Commander Yahuza stated, “In the area of Drug Demand Reduction, about 71 campaigns were carried out in motor parks, schools, marketplaces, mosques and churches.” These efforts were bolstered by brief intervention programmes that provided counseling to 238 drug-dependent individuals.

To ensure long-term success, the NDLEA is collaborating with the Kogi State Government and local NGOs to implement the State Drug Control Committee (SDCC). This high-powered committee is designed to synchronize drug supply and demand reduction policies, creating a unified front against the narcotics trade in the region.
