Gunmen Kill Community Leader, One Other in Anambra State

Tragedy has struck Anambra State as gunmen killed a prominent community leader and one other person in a violent ambush.
The evening attack has left the local area in mourning and heightened fears over the region’s deteriorating security.
The primary victim, a figure active in local affairs, was targeted alongside an associate when assailants invaded the community. Firing sporadically, the gunmen created chaos and fled before security forces arrived, leaving residents in a state of panic.
Witnesses described the operation as well-coordinated, highlighting the increasing audacity of armed groups in the state. While the second victim’s identity remains undisclosed, the community has reacted with shock and urgent calls for government intervention.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the killings and launched an investigation to track the suspects. Authorities expressed condolences to the bereaved families and have tightened security measures within the area to prevent further violence.
Regarding the manhunt, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated, “The command has launched a manhunt for the attackers and we are working with local sources to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.”
