‎Man Dies in Well Trying to Rescue Goat

‎A 45-year-old man on Monday night in Mokola area of Saki, Oyo State lost his life after jumping into a deep well to save a goat.

Neighbors gathered at the scene in a desperate attempt to help, but by the time the state fire service arrived, the man was already trapped and unresponsive.

‎The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the sad news in a statement. He explained that a distress call came in around 10:23 pm from a local resident and another man, Yusuf Ismail. A team led by Kolade Taiwo rushed to the location, but they were unfortunately too late to save the victim.

‎The man had entered the well of his own free will, hoping to pull the animal to safety.

Describing the emergency call, Akinwande said: “The agency received a distress call on Monday at exactly 10:23 pm through a running caller and Yusuf Ismail that someone had fallen into a well at the Mokola area of Saki.”

‎Sadly, this wasn’t the only tragedy this week; 30-year-old Shina Adedeji died in Ogbomoso on Tuesday morning under similar circumstances. Adedeji fell into a well while trying to get a water bucket back, and officials believe he was quickly overcome by toxic ammonia gas trapped at the bottom.

‎Akinwande is now pleading with the public to stop putting their lives at risk for animals or fallen objects. He urged people to call professional rescuers instead of jumping into wells themselves.

Both bodies have since been recovered by the fire service and handed over to the appropriate authorities.

‎The chairman ended his report with a somber reminder that no possession is worth a person’s life. Emphasizing the need for caution, Akinwande said, “The chairman, therefore, warned members of the public to always prioritise their safety in their daily activities, noting that life has no duplicate.”
