Four Nigerians Adam Anas, Akinlawon Tunde Quyuum, Abugu Stanley Onyeka, and Balogun Ridwan Adisa were killed by Ukrainian drones after being lured to Russia with fake promises of “security jobs.”
The victims were forced to sign military contracts in a language they didn’t understand, had their passports seized, and were sent to the frontlines after only three weeks of training.
The Russian military reportedly kept the deaths secret from the families, who only found out through a private WhatsApp group used by other African fighters.
Before he was killed, Adam Anas sent a final message: “Please pray for us, we are in the middle of a forest. It is a two-week journey on foot, and the road is dangerous as there are so many drones.”
One survivor, Abubakar Adamu, is currently trapped and has sent an SOS to the Nigerian government through his lawyers, demanding immediate repatriation.
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated they were unaware of the situation but called the deaths “a sad development.”
