Labour, FCT Minister Reach Agreement as Workers Resume Duty
Organised Labour on Tuesday announced the outcome of a conciliatory meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, leading to the immediate resumption of work by affected workers.
The meeting, which was convened at the instance of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, was held in Abuja on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
It commenced at about 11:45 p.m. and lasted until 3:51 a.m. following extensive and frank deliberations.
According to a circular jointly issued by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), all complaints presented by members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) were exhaustively discussed and fully addressed during the meeting.
The circular stated that the FCT Minister assured Organised Labour of mutual respect and sustained engagement going forward.
It was also agreed that no worker would be victimised in any manner arising from the recent strike action.
In addition, the parties resolved that all outstanding cases at the National Industrial Court (NIC) relating to the dispute would be withdrawn with immediate effect.
Consequently, all JUAC members and affiliates of the TUC and NLC working in the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory (MFCT) were directed to resume work immediately in the interest of industrial peace and harmony.
The circular was jointly signed by the Secretary General of the TUC, Comrade General N.A. Toro, and the Acting General Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Benson Upah.
