Doctors Discover 1918 WWI Bomb Inside Patient’s Rectum

A quiet night at a hospital in south-west France turned into a full-blown emergency after doctors made a shocking discovery inside a 24-year-old patient’s rear end — an unexploded World War I artillery shell.

The drama unfolded late Saturday at Rangueil Hospital in Toulouse when the young man rushed into the emergency unit complaining of intense pain and discomfort.

What initially seemed like a medical emergency quickly escalated into a security threat.

During urgent examinations, doctors realized the patient had inserted a large object into his rectum. Moments later, staff were left stunned when scans revealed the object was a live artillery shell dating back to 1918 — nearly eight inches long.

Hospital authorities immediately triggered emergency protocols. Bomb disposal experts were summoned, firefighters were placed on high alert, and parts of the hospital were evacuated as a safety cordon was thrown around the emergency department to prevent potential disaster.

Thankfully, specialists later confirmed the shell was no longer active and posed no explosive threat.

The patient, a French national, is now recovering and is expected to face police questioning as investigators probe how he came into possession of the prohibited wartime weapon. While officials have yet to confirm the source of the shell, local reports hint the bizarre incident may be tied to personal reasons.

The shocking episode has since sparked widespread disbelief across France, raising serious concerns about public safety and illegal munitions still in circulation more than a century after the war.
