You Must Apologise Within 14 Days, Harrysong Tells Ex-wife over Alleged Defamation
Nigerian singer, Harrison Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, has issued an ultimatum to his former wife, Alexer Gopa, demanding a public apology over allegations he described as defamatory.
The demand was contained in a cease-and-desist notice served through his lawyer, Mary Iyanagbe of Mary M. Iyanagbe and Co, and shared on the singer’s Instagram page on Saturday.
In the notice, Gopa was given 14 days to retract her claims and apologise publicly or face legal action.
The lawyer stated that failure to comply would prompt the singer to seek monetary damages of N1 billion alongside other legal remedies.
The move followed a now-deleted Instagram video in which Gopa accused the singer of harassment and interference in her personal life.
She alleged that Harrysong frequently appeared at her residence without prior notice and claimed she had been solely responsible for caring for their two daughters since their separation in 2024.
According to her, the children lived with her and attended school from her home, visiting their father only occasionally. She also revealed that she had temporarily given up custody of the children, describing the decision as emotionally difficult and the result of prolonged pressure after the marriage collapsed.
Harrysong and Gopa were married in a widely publicised ceremony held in Warri, Delta State, on 27 March 2021.
In the legal notice, the singer’s counsel denied the allegations and warned that continued publication of the claims would be treated as unlawful and damaging to his reputation.
The dispute adds to an ongoing marital crisis between the former couple.
Their separation became public in January 2024 after screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations involving the singer circulated online.
In the messages, he was accused of pressuring his then wife to terminate a pregnancy over concerns about having another female child.
Harrysong later addressed the controversy, urging the public to respect his family’s privacy and stating that he spoke on the matter only after discussions with his family.
