40 Lagos Students Begin Vocational Training Through Adepoju Foundation Support

No fewer than 40 senior secondary students at Lagos Baptist Academy have started vocational and technical training in carpentry, welding, plumbing, and electrical work, following a N15 million education support intervention by the Adepoju Foundation.

The initiative is part of the Bunmi Adedayo Foundation Legacy Project, implemented with support from the Phoenix Global Foundation. It aims to strengthen education delivery and prepare students for life beyond the classroom.

A statement released on Saturday explained that the intervention goes beyond skills acquisition to include scholarships, teacher development, and sports leadership programmes. It noted that the donation covers long-term scholarships for selected students, technical and vocational skills training, sports development, subject enhancement training for teachers, and recognition awards for outstanding academic and non-academic staff.

“The intervention is designed to strengthen learning outcomes, encourage excellence, and equip both students and educators for long-term success,” the statement read.

The skills development component introduces students to practical career pathways early, helping them recognise alternative career options, build confidence, and appreciate the value of hands-on skills alongside formal education.

Teacher development is also a core focus. Over 30 teachers have received targeted subject enhancement training to improve classroom delivery and reinforce foundational learning, ensuring the project’s impact extends beyond individual students.

Student enrichment activities include a sports leadership programme for at least 200 students, aimed at promoting teamwork, discipline, confidence, and leadership skills, complementing both academic and technical learning.

The intervention also provides direct scholastic support to students facing personal challenges. Iyanu Famodimu, who lost both parents and is now cared for by his elder sister, receives a scholarship to ensure his education continues uninterrupted. Similarly, Oluwayowa Adaralegbe, a JSS 1 student from a modest background, is supported to remain consistently engaged in school.

The Adepoju Foundation Legacy Project highlights the impact of long-term, holistic educational support delivered through partnerships. The foundation encourages collaboration with individuals and organisations to expand its reach and address Nigeria’s widening education gap, ensuring more students are prepared for work, leadership, and real-world challenges.
