2 Division Initiates “Operation Igbo Danu” to Eradicate Terrorist Cells in Kwara

The 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army, bolstered by significant support from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), has maintained a relentless offensive against terrorist factions within the Joint Operations Area.
These coordinated maneuvers, carried out between January 23 and 29, 2026, have yielded substantial tactical gains.
The mission is directed by Major General Chinedu Nnebife, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division and Commander of Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in tandem with Brigadier General Nicholas Rume, Commander of the 22 Brigade.
Their joint leadership underscores a heightened level of operational agility and a firm commitment to dismantling insurgent infrastructure.
During these encounters, army units working closely with ONSA executed aggressive fighting patrols across multiple bandit strongholds.
These actions resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists, though some managed to retreat into the dense forest with gunshot injuries. The military successfully razed their hideouts and encampments, effectively dislodging the criminal elements.
In a related development, troops successfully cleared Garin Dandi, a notorious bandit sanctuary located in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The operation resulted in the total destruction of the insurgents’ logistics hubs and their broader supply networks.
Security forces also infiltrated isolated camps that were previously considered unreachable. Upon arrival, they demolished numerous abandoned facilities and logistics assets, a move that has significantly crippled the terrorists’ ability to sustain prolonged operations in the region.
Even when faced with challenging and restrictive terrain, the troops maintained a dominant presence throughout the forested zones, successfully restricting the bandits’ mobility. Furthermore, tactical blocking positions enabled the interception and arrest of fleeing suspects, while simultaneously securing the rescue of several kidnap victims held across various camps.
Field reports suggest that these bandits often benefit from local collaborators who provide intelligence on military movements, allowing some targets to evacuate prematurely. Nevertheless, the achievements of the past week highlight the Division’s resolve and effectiveness in neutralizing threats and restoring peace to Kwara State.
Major General Nnebife has urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely, accurate intelligence regarding bandits and their accomplices. “Operation Igbo Danu” remains active as the military continues its decisive push to eliminate all remaining terrorist networks in the state.
