FG to Build ₦1 Trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano

 

 

The Federal Government has approved a ₦1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service for Kano State.

 

This major project aims to modernize urban transport, boost economic growth, and significantly reduce traffic congestion across the city.

 

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf announced the project while hosting winners of the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition. He noted that the rail system will provide an affordable, efficient transit network connecting key districts and enhancing local trade.

 

The Governor explained that aligning with the Federal Government was a strategic move to secure such vital infrastructure.

He described the rail service as a landmark intervention that will transform Kano into a primary transportation hub in Northern Nigeria.

 

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the Governor noted: “The Kano Metropolitan Rail Service will provide a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit system that will connect key districts within the metropolis, enhance mobility for residents, and stimulate trade and investment.”

 

To ensure successful implementation, the Kano State Government pledged to collaborate with federal agencies to maintain transparency.

 

Governor Yusuf also promised to support the initiative through state-level policies and additional infrastructure development.

 

The event also featured rewards for competition winner Hafsat Muhammad Sada, including a scholarship and land.

 

The Governor thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima for his support, noting that such gestures encourage excellence among young scholars.
