APGA Releases Timetable for 2026 Anambra LG Primaries
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially released the timetable for its 2026 Anambra State Local Government (LG) primary elections, setting the stage for candidate selection across all 21 local government areas
According to the schedule, the sale and return of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms will take place from January 27 to February 6, 2026, at APGA’s Awka Regional Secretariat. This will be followed by the screening of aspirants, scheduled for February 7 to 11, covering chairmanship and councillorship hopefuls across the state’s 21 LGAs and 326 wards A day has been set aside for appeals from screening on February 13, with ward congresses to elect councillorship candidates and delegates slated for February 14. The chairmanship primaries will hold on February 15, followed by appeals from the primaries on February 16 in Awka. APGA has set the form fees at ₦6 million for chairmanship aspirants and ₦600,000 for councillorship candidates. In a move aimed at promoting inclusivity, women and persons with disabilities are eligible for a 50 percent discount on the fees. All payments are non-refundable The party emphasized that the timetable is in line with its constitution and is designed to ensure a transparent and orderly primary process ahead of the state’s LG elections. Political analysts note that the schedule marks the beginning of intense grassroots political activities in the state as aspirants position themselves for the upcoming elections. APGA’s move comes amid growing competition among political parties in Anambra, highlighting the significance of early preparations for both the LG and gubernatorial elections in the state.
