Police Nab Two Female Suspects in Anambra for Trafficking Minor to Ghana
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two female suspects in connection with the alleged trafficking of a 16-year-old girl to Ghana.
The suspects, identified as Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, were arrested on the evening of January 26 in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state by operatives attached to the Ozubulu Police Division.
Confirming the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were apprehended following technology-driven intelligence linked to a report of a missing minor.
According to Ikenga, the case involved the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, Miss Oluebube Chukwuma, whose whereabouts had remained unknown until the arrest of the suspects.
“Operatives of the Anambra Police Command attached to Ozubulu Division, acting on technology-driven information, arrested two female suspects over a reported case of a missing 16-year-old girl in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area,” Ikenga said.
He disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the disappearance of the minor and revealed that the victim had been trafficked to Ghana.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation.
Ikenga said the police commissioner also directed operatives to intensify efforts to trace the victim, investigate the circumstances surrounding her relocation to Ghana, and identify all individuals involved in the alleged trafficking for possible arrest and prosecution.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, particularly minors, and urged members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and suspicious movements to security agencies.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
