Police Arrest Six Suspects Over ₦7.7 Billion Telecommunications Hack

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended six suspects accused of hacking into the core infrastructure of a major telecommunications company in Nigeria.
The breakthrough in the investigation was confirmed on Wednesday by the authorities following a sophisticated cyber-operation.
According to a statement issued by the Force Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the criminal gang managed to gain unauthorized access to the company’s internal servers. This breach allowed the group to manipulate the firm’s digital assets and bypass security protocols.
The scale of the theft is significant, as the suspects allegedly diverted airtime and mobile data valued at approximately N7.7 billion. This massive digital heist has caused substantial financial losses for the affected telecommunications provider.
Law enforcement officials have intensified their crackdown on cybercrime to protect the nation’s digital economy. The arrest of these six individuals is seen as a major win in the ongoing battle against high-tech fraud and system infiltrations.
Confirming the incident, the Force Spokesman stated that the suspects were tracked down after the breach was detected. He noted that the investigation is still ongoing to determine the full extent of the network and recover any remaining stolen assets.
In the official briefing, the police highlighted the severity of the crime, with the statement confirming that: “The suspects allegedly gained unlawful access into the core systems of the telecommunication company. He said they diverted airtime and mobile data worth N7.7 billion.”
