Obasanjo Pays Tribute to Late Business Icon, Otunba Adekunle Ojora

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep sadness over the passing of renowned business mogul and industrialist, Otunba Adekunle Ojora.

The prominent businessman reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday at the age of 93, leaving behind a massive vacuum in the Nigerian corporate and traditional landscape.

In a heartfelt tribute, Obasanjo described the late Ojora as a “notable captain of industry and commerce” whose influence reached across the country. He emphasized that the deceased was an amiable and respected Nigerian who dedicated his life to the service of his community and the nation at large.

The former President noted that while the death is a great loss, the mogul’s legacy remains secure through his immense contributions to the economic growth of the South-West and Nigeria. He stated that Ojora’s impact would continue to be felt by future generations of entrepreneurs and leaders.

Commiserating with the Ojora and Adele royal families of Lagos, Obasanjo highlighted the integrity and wisdom that the late patriarch embodied throughout his long career. He offered his prayers for the family, asking for God to grant them the fortitude to bear the significant loss of their leader.

According to the official report, Obasanjo said “It is with a heavy heart that I express how deeply grieved I was to hear of the death of Otunba (Dr.) Adekunle Ojora, OFR, CON, JP, at the age 93. On behalf of my family and on my own behalf, I wish to commiserate with the entire members of Ojora and Adele royal families of Lagos as well as the good people of Lagos State over the passing of this amiable and notable Nigerian, who in his lifetime built a living legacy of integrity, wisdom, and dedication.”

The late Otunba Ojora had a distinguished professional journey that began in journalism with the BBC before he transitioned into the corporate sector. He famously served as the Chairman of the Board of AGIP Nigeria Limited for over three decades, from 1971 until 2002, cementing his status as a boardroom guru.

Beyond his business achievements, he held prestigious traditional titles including the Otunba of Lagos and the Lisa of Ife. He is survived by his wife, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, and his children, including Mrs. Toyin Ojora-Saraki, the wife of former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
