INEC to Conduct Bye-Elections in Two Rivers State Constituencies February 21
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, February 21, 2026, for the conduct of bye-elections in two state constituencies in Rivers State Ahoada East II and Khana II.
The electoral body announced the date in a notice issued on Tuesday, stating that voting would commence at 8:30 a.m. across all designated polling units in the affected constituencies.
According to INEC, the bye-elections are being conducted to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, in order to restore full legislative representation to the people of the two constituencies.
The commission urged eligible voters in Ahoada East II and Khana II to turn out in large numbers and participate peacefully in the exercise, describing the elections as a crucial civic responsibility.
INEC assured stakeholders that adequate preparations were underway to ensure the elections are free, fair, credible, and transparent, including the deployment of trained personnel and election materials to all polling units.
The commission also called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines throughout the electoral process.
In addition, INEC appealed to security agencies to maintain law and order before, during, and after the polls to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, and observers.
Political stakeholders in the state are expected to intensify campaign activities in the coming weeks ahead of the bye-elections, which are seen as important to stabilising legislative activities in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting elections that reflect the will of the people and contribute to the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic process.
