Military Airstrikes Neutralise Over 100 Terrorists in Kwara

Military airstrike operations carried out at the weekend have neutralised no fewer than 100 terrorists across parts of Kwara State, as security forces intensify efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.

The coordinated operations targeted multiple terrorist and bandit camps in Edu, Ifelodun and Patigi Local Government Areas. Several other suspected criminals were reported to have sustained injuries of varying degrees, while a number of camps and hideouts were destroyed, forcing surviving elements to flee.

Findings revealed that the airstrikes were specifically executed in Baba Sango area of Ifelodun LGA, Gbugbu in Edu LGA, and Lata in Patigi LGA, locations identified by security agencies as major strongholds of bandits, terrorists and kidnappers operating in Kwara State.

A senior military officer involved in the operations, who spoke to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the strikes form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the state.

“Ongoing military operations have attacked terrorist camps in parts of Edu, Ifelodun and Patigi Local Government Areas, neutralising many kidnappers and terrorists,” the officer said.

He added that the sustained offensive has thrown criminal elements into disarray and displaced them from their positions. However, he noted that operations continue to face challenges due to informants within local communities who leak information on troop movements.

A military source urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspected informants, stressing that community cooperation is crucial for the success of security operations.
