Kwankwaso’s Son Resigns from Kano Cabinet Following Governor’s Defection

Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the eldest son of NNPP National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from his position as the Commissioner for Youth and Sport in Kano State.

His resignation, submitted on Monday morning, marks a major shift in the state’s political landscape following the exit of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC.

In a formal statement, Mustapha announced his departure with a “heavy heart,” declaring: “I wish to inform the general public that I have resigned my appointment as the Commissioner for Youth and Sport and a member of the Kano State Executive Council.”

He noted that the decision came after careful reflection regarding the current political realignments.

Expressing his appreciation for the chance to serve, he stated: “I want to use this opportunity to thank His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the opportunity given to me to serve my state in that capacity.”

He highlighted that his time in office provided him with invaluable lessons and a deeper connection to the people of Kano.

Mustapha also acknowledged the role of his father in his journey, saying: “I also want to thank my father and leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his guidance and support throughout my stay in office.”

His exit underscores the growing divide between the Governor and the Kwankwasiyya movement that originally brought him to power.

The resignation is part of a wider exodus of cabinet members and loyalists who have chosen to remain with the NNPP.

As Governor Yusuf solidifies his move to the APC, several other high-ranking officials have similarly stepped down, signaling a period of significant political restructuring within the state government.
