NNPP NWC Accuses Gov Yusuf of Abandoning Party Mandate
The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has criticised Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf following his departure from the party, describing his decision as a betrayal of the confidence placed in him by party members.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the party leadership dismissed Yusuf’s claim that internal crises within the party prompted his exit.
The committee argued that the governor’s justification lacked merit and appeared to be a belated attempt to rationalise his decision.
Governor Yusuf officially resigned from the NNPP on Friday and is widely expected to align with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His withdrawal was communicated through a letter submitted to the NNPP chairperson of Diso-Chiranchi Ward in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, with effect from January 23.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, confirmed the resignation in a statement released on Friday, noting that Yusuf had formally notified the party of his decision to discontinue his membership.
The development marks the latest twist in the ongoing political realignments within Kano State’s political landscape.
