Beatrice Ekweremadu Returns to Nigeria on Release from UK Prison
Beatrice Ekweremadu, spouse of Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has arrived back inNigeria following her release from a United Kingdom correctional facility.
She landed on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, after serving the mandatory prison segment of her sentence related to a widely publicized organ-harvesting conspiracy.
Upon her arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, she was greeted by relatives and close friends, signifying her first return to the country since the legal proceedings commenced in mid-2022.
Although her homecoming has prompted festivities in her native community of Mpu within Enugu State’s Aninri Local Government Area, her husband remains imprisoned in London.
The return of the former lawmaker’s wife follows her conviction in May 2023 at the Old Bailey in London.
She had been handed a prison term of four years and six months for her involvement in a plot to bring a 21-year-old street vendor from Lagos to the UK to harvest his kidney.
