Police Arrest 14 Suspected Cultists in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects around the Ipara, Ode, and Isara-Remo areas of the state.
The arrests were made during a covert operation on Saturday, January 24, 2026, targeting individuals involved in unlawful assembly and suspected cult initiation.
The police acted on intelligence indicating that members of the Eiye Confraternity had gathered in a bush at Ipara-Remo. The group was reportedly planning to initiate new members and orchestrate activities aimed at breaching the peace in the community.
A joint team of operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit carried out the raid. They were supported by personnel from the Ipara and Isara divisions to ensure a coordinated sweep of the location.
Thirteen males and one female were taken into custody during the exercise. The police identified several of the suspects, including a prominent member known as Solomon Shobamiwo, also nicknamed “Solo Hot,” and others such as Farooq Ogunsola and Nanso Blessing.
During the operation, security forces recovered three locally made pistols, 11 cartridges, and four rounds of ammunition. Other items seized included 19 mobile phones, charms, confraternity caps, and a drum allegedly used during the initiation ceremony.
In addition to the weapons, the police impounded nine vehicles of various brands found at the scene. Some of the cars were found without license plates, while others were fitted with unauthorized dealer number plates, raising further suspicion.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the cult-related activities and urged youths to renounce criminal associations. He assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
