NBA Demands Probe into Task Force Assault on Anambra Lawyer

The Nigeran Bar Association, Awka Branch has condemned the brutal assault of lawyer, Charles Ifeanyi by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade at Eke-Awka Market.
The association is demanding a formal government investigation into the enforcement team’s actions.
The attack reportedly began after Ifeanyi questioned why an official slapped a pleading trader. Approximately 15 operatives allegedly beat the lawyer, causing him to hit his head on the pavement, before handcuffing him and seizing the phones of witnesses.
When NBA representatives tried to intervene at the task force office, they were denied access and threatened with detention themselves.
The lawyer and his brother were held in a cell for several hours before being released late that night.
Suffering from head and body injuries, Ifeanyi has undergone medical testing and filed petitions with the police and environmental authorities. He characterized the assault as a barbaric response to his attempt to advocate for a citizen’s rights.
State Information Commissioner Law Mefor confirmed the incident and promised an investigation.
While the task force claims the lawyer interfered with their duties, the government stressed that manhandling individuals is unacceptable and will be addressed.
