Pentagon Prepares 1500 soldiers From Alaska for Possible Minnesota Deployment

The Pentagon has ordered approximately 1,500 active-duty soldiers from the 11th Airborne Division in Alaska to prepare for a possible deployment to Minnesota.
These units, which specialize in cold-weather operations, have been placed on “prepare-to-deploy” status as a contingency measure in case civil unrest in the state escalates further.
This move follows President Donald Trump’s recent threats to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807, a rarely used law that allows the president to deploy the military domestically for law enforcement.
Trump stated that he would use this power if local “corrupt politicians” do not stop protesters from interfering with federal immigration agents.
Tensions in Minneapolis have surged following the fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, by an ICE officer earlier this month. The administration has already deployed about 3,000 federal agents to the region as part of a massive immigration enforcement crackdown, leading to frequent clashes between residents and authorities.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have condemned the potential military intervention, calling it an authoritarian tactic and a “federal invasion.” While the Pentagon describes the orders as “prudent planning,” state leaders argue that the presence of active-duty troops would only worsen the situation.
