The Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service in charge of the Cross River/Calabar Free Zone Command and Akwa Ibom area, Momodu Dauda, has undertaken a working visit to the Tinapa Free Trade Zone in Cross River State, pledging sustained support for its operations and growth.

The visit, which took place on Monday, January 12, 2026, was aimed at assessing activities within the free zone, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and reinforcing collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and free trade zone operators.

Addressing stakeholders during the visit, Comptroller Dauda reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade, safeguarding investments and maintaining an enabling environment for business.

He noted that while trade facilitation remains a priority, the Service would continue to enforce strict measures against smuggling and other illegal economic activities.

Dauda also pledged to uphold the policy direction and operational vision of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, through effective implementation of the Service’s mandates at the command level.

Responding, the General Manager of the Tinapa Resort and Free Trade Zone, Frances Ekom, acknowledged ongoing efforts to revive the facility, expressing optimism that renewed stakeholder commitment was driving Tinapa’s recovery after years of operational setbacks.

She commended the Customs Service for its engagement and support in repositioning the free zone for greater economic relevance.

The Customs Area Controller assured stakeholders of continuous engagement, professionalism and institutional support, adding that the command would remain focused on revenue generation, trade facilitation and border security in line with national economic growth objectives.
