Police Launch Manhunt After Woman, Six Children Killed in Kano Attack

Police authorities in Kano State on Saturday opened an investigation after a 35-year-old woman, her six children, and another individual were brutally killed by suspected hoodlums at their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The attack, which occurred earlier in the day, has left the quiet community in shock and grief. Residents said the assailants forced their way into the family residence and carried out the killings using dangerous weapons before fleeing the scene.

According to the Kano State Police Command, a distress call alerting officers to the incident was received around 12:10 p.m. The message reported a violent assault on the household of a resident identified as Haruna Bashir.

Reacting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, ordered the immediate deployment of a security team to the area. The operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani.

Confirming the development in an official statement, Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Kiyawa explained that emergency responders rushed the victims to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention. Sadly, doctors on duty confirmed that none of them survived.

“The bodies were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival,” Kiyawa stated.

He added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the Criminal Investigation Department, Wada Jarma, has been directed to take charge of the probe with a mandate to uncover those responsible and ensure they are apprehended.

The killings have sparked widespread concern among residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, many of whom are now calling for stronger security measures in the area. Community members urged law enforcement agencies to intensify patrols and put structures in place to prevent similar tragedies.

While the motive for the attack remains unclear, police officials have assured the public that investigations are being treated with urgency. The command also extended its sympathies to the grieving family and the wider Kano community.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with useful information to come forward, promising that every available resource will be deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore confidence in public safety.
