My Focus Is on Fixing Abia, Not the 2027 Elections, Says Otti
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed growing political discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections, insisting that his administration is fully focused on governance and the ongoing task of rebuilding the state.
The governor made this known while addressing worshippers during a church service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District, in Isialangwa South Local Government Area, where he attended alongside his wife, Priscilla Chidinma Otti. Otti described early election campaigns and political speculation as unnecessary distractions, stressing that his government would not be drawn into premature politicking at the expense of development. My focus is not on the 2027 elections. Nobody is entitled to distract us with 2027 talk. Our priority is to fix Abia and deliver good governance to the people,” the governor said. He urged Abians to remain patient and supportive, noting that some of the inconveniences currently experienced across parts of the state were the result of ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at long-term development. According to him, the temporary discomfort associated with road construction and urban renewal would ultimately give way to improved living conditions. The governor also expressed confidence in divine guidance, stating that just as the challenges of previous elections were overcome, future political contests would be handled at the appropriate time. The God who settled 2023 will also settle 2027. For now, we must remain focused on the work the people elected us to do,” he added. Otti’s comments come amid rising political activities and public declarations by opposition figures ahead of the next election cycle, particularly in Abia State. However, the governor maintained that governance, not political rivalry, would define his administration. Since assuming office, Otti has repeatedly emphasized a development-first agenda, with renewed investments in road infrastructure, urban renewal, healthcare delivery, and fiscal reforms aimed at restoring confidence in Abia’s economy.
