FG Congratulates Super Eagles on AFCON 2025 Bronze Medal Win
The Federal Government has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria following their victory in the third-place match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which earned the country a bronze medal finish at the continental tournament.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised the national team for their resilience, discipline and fighting spirit throughout the competition. He said the Super Eagles’ performance inspired millions of Nigerians at home and abroad and reaffirmed the country’s rich football heritage. The Super Eagles secured the bronze medal after defeating Egypt in a dramatic third-place playoff decided by a penalty shootout. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero of the encounter, making crucial saves that sealed Nigeria’s victory after regulation time ended in a draw According to the minister, although the team narrowly missed out on a place in the final after losing the semi-final on penalties to host nation Morocco, the players showed character by bouncing back strongly to claim third place. He commended the players, coaches and backroom staff for their commitment and sacrifice, noting that their collective effort brought pride to the nation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also congratulated the team, describing the bronze medal as “good like gold.” In a message released by the State House, the president said the Super Eagles’ determination and ability to recover from disappointment reflected the resilience and can-do spirit of Nigerians. He added that the team’s performance rekindled national pride and unity at a time when the country needs positive moments.
