Anambra Police Arrest Suspect over Abduction, Killing of 6 Year Old Girl
The Anambra State Police Command have arrested 28-year-old Friday Akonobi for his alleged involvement in the abduction and ritual killing of a six-year-old girl, Ozioma Nwankwo.
The suspect was apprehended on January 17, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu following credible intelligence.
Investigations revealed that the victim was kidnapped on May 10, 2025, from the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State by a five-man syndicate. During his interrogation, Akonobi reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that he worked alongside four other accomplices who are still at large.
The suspect further disclosed that the young girl was taken to Enugu State and handed over to a suspected native doctor named Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play.” Akonobi claimed that he and his fellow gang members acted as agents for the native doctor and were paid ₦1 million for every virgin girl they delivered.
Tragically, the suspect revealed that the young victim was murdered for ritual purposes. He also noted that the native doctor, Ezeani, had already been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command, a development that has recently gained significant attention on social media through various viral videos.
The Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured the public that the command is working tirelessly to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.
He emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring all individuals involved in this heinous crime face the full weight of the law.
