TCN Announces Power Outage in Parts of Sokoto

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has scheduled a temporary power interruption for several districts within Sokoto Town this Saturday, January 17, 2026. This downtime is required to facilitate yearly preventive maintenance on a 30/40MVA transformer situated at the local Sokoto Transmission Substation.

According to a press release by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs, the technical work is anticipated to take eight hours, running from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. While the maintenance is underway, the specific transformer will be shut down, making it impossible for the regional provider to distribute electricity to certain sectors.

The neighborhoods designated to face the outage include the Gagi and Minanata areas, as well as Sama and Abuja Roads. Furthermore, those living or working around the Army Barracks and the Old Airport district should also prepare for a total loss of power during the maintenance window.

The TCN clarified that the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company will be restricted from pulling bulk power from the substation while repairs are in progress. They noted that such routine inspections are vital for maintaining the safety, durability, and overall stability of the infrastructure that powers the region.

The company expressed regret for any discomfort caused and requested the patience of the impacted residents.

The TCN concluded by reaffirming its dedication to enhancing the national grid and promised that power would be reconnected as soon as the technical team finishes their task.
