NUPRC Stands with PENGASSAN to Mark 20 Years of Uche Marcus’ Passing

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has eulogised late union leader Comrade Uche Marcus Okoro as it joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his passing.

Okoro, a former President of PENGASSAN, died in the Sosoliso plane crash on December 10, 2005. In a statement, the Commission said it stood in solidarity with PENGASSAN on the remembrance of the late unionist, describing him as a symbol of sterling leadership in Nigeria’s oil and gas labour movement.

The NUPRC noted that Okoro remains the only person to have served as President of both PENGASSAN and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), a distinction it said testifies to his exceptional leadership qualities. It added that his doggedness and dedication to the welfare of Nigerian oil workers earned him lasting recognition, including the naming of PENGASSAN’s national headquarters as U.M Okoro House.

In honour of the deceased, the Commission restated its commitment to staff welfare and development, noting that his legacy continues to inspire its values and engagement with workers in the sector.

The NUPRC also commiserated with Okoro’s family and prayed that God Almighty would continue to strengthen the wife and children he left behind.

The statement was signed by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head, Media and Strategic Communication at the NUPRC.
