Shettima Lands in Guinea for President Doumbouya’s Inauguration

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Conakry, Guinea, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of President Mamadi Doumbouya. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Nongo.
His presence at the event is a strategic diplomatic move aimed at strengthening regional leadership and economic partnerships under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. It also highlights Nigeria’s active role within ECOWAS in supporting Guinea’s transition back to constitutional governance after a four-year period of military rule.
The visit is intended to deepen bilateral trade between the two nations, which has seen recent growth. Nigerian exports to Guinea, primarily consisting of manufactured goods and agricultural products, have recently reached a value of approximately $3.29 million, and both nations seek to expand this economic cooperation.
President Mamadi Doumbouya, a former special forces colonel, originally took power in a September 2021 coup but was recently declared the winner of the national election with 86.7 percent of the vote. His inauguration marks a formal milestone in the country’s return to democratic processes.
Following the inauguration in Guinea, Vice President Shettima is expected to travel to Davos, Switzerland. There, he will participate in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum to engage with global leaders on Nigeria’s economic reforms and investment opportunities.
