Army Seeks Closer Cooperation with US to Tackle Insecurity

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for a deeper strategic partnership with the United States Army to combat the country’s evolving security challenges.
During a visit from the U.S. Defence Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Semira Moore, Shaibu emphasized the need for expanded cooperation in both military operations and institutional development.
The Army Chief expressed gratitude for America’s long-standing support, noting that many senior Nigerian officers, including himself, are alumni of U.S. military institutions.
He highlighted that leveraging U.S. expertise in kinetic and non-kinetic operations is essential for enhancing the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness and strategic capabilities.
In response, Lieutenant Colonel Moore reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening ties through increased intelligence sharing, joint planning, and capacity building. She also noted that the U.S. would continue to support non-kinetic areas such as troop welfare and humanitarian assistance to maintain military morale.
This engagement follows a recent delivery of operational materials from the U.S. Africa Command to support Nigeria’s internal security efforts. Both parties agreed that such international partnerships are vital for promoting regional peace and addressing the complex security threats currently facing the nation.
